How to Measure Your Ring Size at Home

August 2026

Ordering a ring online is easy — knowing your size is the only tricky part. Here are two reliable ways to measure your ring size at home in under five minutes, plus a size chart and a few tips from us.

What you’ll need

  • A thin strip of paper or a piece of thread (nothing stretchy)
  • A ruler with millimetres
  • A pen
  • Or simply a ring that already fits you well

Method 1: The thread or paper strip

  1. Cut a thin strip of paper or take a piece of thread.
  2. Wrap it around the base of the finger you’ll wear the ring on — snug, but not tight.
  3. Mark the exact point where the end overlaps.
  4. Lay it flat and measure the length in millimetres. That’s your finger’s circumference.
  5. Find the closest circumference in the chart below — that’s your ring size.

Method 2: Match a ring you already own

Take a ring that fits the same finger well. Measure its inside diameter in millimetres — edge to edge, straight across the centre — and match it in the chart.

Tips for getting it right

  • Measure at the end of the day — fingers are slightly larger then.
  • Avoid measuring cold hands; fingers shrink in the cold.
  • Measure two or three times and go with the most common reading.
  • Between two sizes? Choose the bigger one.
  • Wide bands fit a little tighter — consider going half a size up.
